Carol Schwartz, Ph.D.
Dr. Carol J. Schwartz is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice at Psychological Institutes of Michigan, PC in Franklin. Her practice focuses on children and families including individual, marital and family therapy. She helps with parenting issues as well as helping all patients with making changes and adapting coping mechanisms by the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Schwartz is also trained in EMDR to help her clients who have experienced trauma. Her skills work exceptionally well with diagnosis of anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD and ODD.
As part of her practice, Dr. Schwartz conducts psychological neuropsychological and psycho educational evaluations for the purpose of custody evaluations and diagnosing psychopathology and learning disabilities. She serves as a court appointed therapist for children in the midst of high conflict divorce and works to reunite parents and children post divorce. She has also served as a student advocate at IEPT meetings in most metropolitan school districts.
Dr. Schwartz served as an adjunct graduate professor at Wayne State University for 14 years. At Wayne State, she taught personality assessment, including the Rorschach and the MMPI 2, as well as cognitive testing to master's level psychologists who have gone on to use their skills both in schools and clinical practices.
Dr. Schwartz consults and testifies about completed custody evaluations. She works with divorcing couples to help them determine appropriate parenting times without the use of litigation. In addition, Dr. Schwartz has competed custody evaluations and has served as a parenting time coordinator.
Dr. Schwartz has presented in various venues to other professionals and the public at large on topics such as parenting techniques, new innovations in psychological testing and the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with children.
She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Brooklyn College and a Master of Arts in Education from Syracuse University. Dr. Schwartz has a second Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy from Wayne State University in Educational and Clinical Psychology.
Dr. Schwartz is now President-elect and served as Program Chair of the Michigan Psychological Association. She has been elected as a fellow of MPA.
